Adult celebrities are afraid of losing their jobs because of strict social media rules that prohibit them from sharing explicit content.
Cherie DeVille expressed concern about losing her 3.7 million Instagram followers.
The famous porn star, who also creates content for OnlyFans, is one of many creators who have grown a following on Instagram – but the rules are making her nervous.
According to Cherie, in recent years, platforms like Instagram have become “completely invaluable” for driving traffic to personal websites, which is where performers make their money.
Even though creators must be careful to follow Instagram’s rules, many of them believe the app’s policies are becoming increasingly unpredictable.
It is said to have occurred following the implementation of SESTA-FOSTA, a federal law that targets human trafficking on the internet.
Adult industry workers recently told NBC News that they always err on the side of caution because they don’t want their accounts to be terminated.
Nonetheless, they claim that Instagram has removed their content and banned them on occasions when it claimed they violated the rules.
The only problem is that celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Britney Spears frequently post risqué and nearly naked photos but are never barred from doing so.
“Every morning when I first log into my phone, even if it takes a moment to load Instagram, I have an adrenaline rush,”
Cherie told NBC.
“Imagine that stress, imagine waking up every morning and wondering if you’ve lost your career.
“When our accounts are ripped away without breaking community guidelines, you might not be able to pay rent, you might not be able to pay your mortgage, you might not be able to feed yourself.”
Cherie told NBC.
However, the censorship of sex is affecting not only porn stars, but also OnlyFans creators and sex educators.
Pornhub’s account was temporarily suspended, but OnlyFans’ account was allowed to remain active, which some found perplexing.
Accounts that share information about sex education have even been deactivated and their posts have been permanently deleted by the platform in the last two years.
Elle Stanger, a sex worker, podcaster, and sex educator, claimed three suspensions.
She had 164,000 Instagram followers on the account, and her earnings have dropped by 40% since Instagram changed its Sexual Solicitation policy in 2019.
“People in the industry became poorer as a result of their inability to advertise,” she added.
