After establishing his own version of ChatGPT, Grok, Elon Musk appears to be preparing to take on popular email provider Gmail, which is owned by Google. The X boss appears to be on his way to building his own version of Gmail called Xmail, which corresponds to the name of his microblogging service, X (previously Twitter).

According to the Daily Mail, Musk indicated in an interaction on the X platform that a product called Xmail is on its way. There are no further information, and it is unknown when it will be released. However, the email is intended to be integrated into the X app.

The development came to light after Nate, an engineer at X, published a post, asking, “When are we making Xmail/” Musk responded with customary nonchalance, “It’s coming”.

While Musk is known for making big claims, he has also made significant modifications to X since acquiring it. Even if Xmail succeeds, taking on Gmail would be a massive undertaking. According to reports, Gmail will have more than 1.8 billion users by 2024.

After the exchange was detected, Xmail became a trending topic on X, with over 15K posts. Several users responded to the revelation by tweeting memes and expressing strong thoughts about Musk’s new venture. Here are some reactions from the platform.
