CoronaVirus: “3 waves to hit in 90 days” in China. Alarming Rise in Covid 19 cases in China, is the World ready for another pandemic?
CoronaVirus has made Work in Chinese hospitals slow, as they run out of beds due to a large number of infected patients and health officials.
Is the Chinese government losing control of CoronaVirus management as the number of cases in China rises? Epidemiologists predict that at least three waves of the virus will strike the United States this winter. According to The Hong Kong Post, the Chinese government was “under-prepared” when it abruptly ended its zero-COVID policy in response to nationwide protests.
The Chinese government has remained silent on the number of deaths thus far. However, Chinese authorities have warned of successive waves of CoronaVirus infections in the coming months, as cases have continued to rise since restrictions were lifted earlier this month.
Wu Zunyou, chief epidemiologist at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said in a speech that “the current outbreak would peak this winter and run in three waves for about three months,” according to The Hong Kong Post, citing state media reports. Wu Zunyou spoke at a press conference in Beijing.
Wu claims that the “first wave would run from now until mid-January. A second wave would likely follow soon after, triggered by the mass travel of hundreds of millions of people across the country for the Lunar New Year starting on 21 January.”

According to the news report, he predicts that China will face a “third wave” of CoronaVirus from late February to mid-March after people return to work after the holidays. The wave is expected to be triggered by people travelling to their hometowns to celebrate the Lunar New Year holiday, which falls on January 21.
Notably, work in Chinese hospitals has slowed as they face two problems: running out of beds due to a large number of patients and health officials becoming infected, according to The Hong Kong Post, citing western media reports. Meanwhile, pharmacies are running out of stock due to increased demand, with little chance of replenishment.

People are reporting numerous cases of CoronaVirus around them, despite the official count of around 2,000 per day, according to The Hong Kong Post, citing a state media report. The national health commission admitted last week that tracking asymptomatic infections was “impossible,” and that it would no longer count them.
A million deaths are expected in the coming months, according to experts. According to experts, China is ill-prepared for a sudden exit because it lacks resources for increasing elderly vaccination rates, increasing intensive care capacity in hospitals, and stockpiling antiviral medications.
Under current conditions, a nationwide reopening could result in up to 684 deaths per million people, according to projections by three professors at the University of Hong Kong. With a population of 1.4 billion people, this would equate to 964,400 deaths.
According to The Hong Post, the increase in CoronaVirus cases will “likely overload many local health systems across the country,” citing a research paper published last week on the Medrxiv preprint server. The research paper has yet to be peer reviewed.
Meanwhile, according to the study, lifting CoronaVirus restrictions in all provinces will result in a 1.5 to 2.5 times increase in hospital capacity. The situation can be avoided if China provides people with booster shots and anti-viral drugs.
According to the report, if the fourth-dose vaccination covers 85% of the population and antiviral coverage reaches 60%, the death rate can be reduced by 26% to 35%, according to the study, which is funded in part by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Hong Kong government.
Despite the relaxation of restrictions, city streets in Beijing and Shanghai appeared quiet over the weekend, according to the news report. As the number of CoronaVirus cases continues to rise, the Xi Jinping government is being questioned about what it was doing other than locking people in their homes and conducting mass testing.
Notably, since the virus’s emergence, China has strictly enforced CoronaVirus restrictions.
To combat the spread of Covid 19, Chinese authorities have imposed lockdowns, travel restrictions, and mass testing. However, the restrictions were eased following nationwide protests against the measures.
The government is also concerned about the virus’s spread in rural areas and the availability of an adequate number of effective vaccine doses. According to the news, China’s vaccines have not proven to be as effective as those from India or the West. Moreover, vaccines developed by other countries are not available in mainland China.
