Lionel Messi strikes again for Inter Miami! Argentine superstar nets stoppage-time equalizer to draw against LA Galaxy.
Lionel Messi strikes again for Inter Miami!
The Los Angeles Galaxy dominated the evening, but then there was Lionel Messi. You can never count him out. He is an eight-time Ballon d’Or winner for a reason, and just when nobody expected it, he proved it – in clutch manner.
The Argentine equalized in stoppage time for the Herons, thanks to a superb assist from old friend and former Barcelona teammate Jordi Alba. Their excellent teamwork was on display to save the Herons a point following a 90-minute performance in which they were trounced in all aspects.
The Galaxy might have opened the score early in the match when Sergio Busquets fouled Joseph Paintsil, but USMNT goalkeeper Drake Callender saved Riqui Puig’s penalty. Their dominant performance was ultimately rewarded with a goal in the 75th minute by Dejan Jovelic, but it all came crashing down with minutes remaining.
The Galaxy dominated the game from defense to midfield to the final third of the pitch, but in one minute – and that was all Inter Miami needed – everything changed.

Inter Miami’s ex-Barcelona quartet of Busquets, Messi, Jordi Alba and Luis Suarez all played with LA Galaxy’s Puig at the Catalan club in 2018. An unlikely reunion – of sorts!
