Lionel Messi engineered both goals in a stunning performance as Inter Miami opened the new Major League Soccer season with a dominant 2-0 victory over Real Salt Lake on Wednesday.
The Argentine maestro, who demonstrated his undying genius throughout the encounter, erased any questions about his fitness with a dominant performance under Gerardo “Tata” Martino’s tutelage.

Despite Real Salt Lake’s more assertive approach in the second half, with Cristian Arango and Andres Gomez posing threats, Messi’s unwavering work ethic and vision lifted Inter Miami’s game.
The 36-year-old superstar orchestrated a stunning play, combining with former Barcelona colleague Luis Suarez, who then set up Diego Gomez to score a crisp goal into the far corner, increasing Miami’s lead.
Messi continued to create opportunities, nearly setting up Suarez for a third goal before being denied by MacMath’s reflex stop.
A thing of beauty. 😍
