Harry Kane confirms contract talks will take place in the “coming months” with Tottenham
After equaling Jimmy Greaves’ scoring record last night, Harry Kane expects to open contract talks with Tottenham in the “coming months,” but has downplayed the chances of signing a new deal before the end of the season.
Harry Kane’s 266th Tottenham goal tied him with Greaves as the club’s all-time leading scorer, and earned Antonio Conte’s side a much-needed 1-0 win at Fulham.
Harry Kane, who has entered the final 18 months of his contract, is open to holding talks with the club after the transfer window and could extend his deal if circumstances are favourable, according to Standard Sport on Monday.
Needed a win like that after a tough couple of results. Very proud to level Jimmy Greaves’ record just looking for one more to break it now! pic.twitter.com/wutoucU7tC

Despite their poor form, the 29-year-old says he still wants to win trophies with his boyhood club and believes this season can be a success.
When asked for an update on his contract by Standard Sport, Kane said: “To be honest, there hasn’t been much discussion.
“I’m sure there will be discussions in the coming months, but for now, I’m just focused on this season and doing my best for the team. There’s still a lot to play for in terms of getting into the Champions League, as well as winning the FA Cup and the Champions League. That is where my attention is right now.

“I know there’s going to be rumours, a lot of talk and speculation about my future but I’m just focussed on what I can do”.
“Of course I still want to win trophies for Tottenham Hotspur. That’s been my goal since I started playing first-team football with them. It hasn’t happened. I’ve been open about [how I feel about] that but I’ll continue to try to achieve that. We have a really good squad, a fantastic manager and there’s no reason why we still can’t be successful this season. We’ve just got to put everything we can into it and see where we are come May.”

Spurs will be hesitant to let Harry Kane enter the final year of his contract, raising the prospect of him walking away for nothing in summer 2024.
Harry Kane has repeatedly stated that he is willing to stay at Spurs as long as the club is progressing and competing for trophies, and he is likely to want assurances that the club remains upwardly mobile and ambitious before extending his contract.
“There’s still a lot of games to play in the Premier League, we have an important FA Cup game at the weekend [at Preston] and the Champions League starts again in February,” he said. “In football, things can turn around really quick and all of sudden you can be right in amongst two competitions and fighting for Champions League spots.
“Look at where we were last year and we managed to get in the Champions League. Anything’s possible still. Nights like last night will definitely help but it’s about how we build on this now, and that starts with the FA Cup at the weekend.”
Conte’s manager future with Tottenham
Conte has yet to commit to Spurs beyond the end of the season, when his own contract expires. The loss of three close friends this year, Gian Piero Ventrone, Sinisa Mihajlovic, and Gianluca Vialli, has left the Italian questioning his own future, and Kane says he will not put pressure on the head coach to stay.
“I’m not going talk about the manager’s future,” Kane said. “That’s down to him. I’m sure he’ll have conversations with the club and assess where we are as a team. He’s had a lot going on, on and off the pitch, so he probably needs time to assess it all.
“From my point of view, I really enjoy working with him and it would be fantastic if he did stay.
“It’s always tough [to see Conte suffering] because the manager is the leader and the boss, the one everyone looks up to. Of course we know he’s been going through a tough time outside of football and it’s not been helped by some of the results we’ve had either.
“As players we take responsibility for that. It’s about digging deep and sticking together. Through tough times you find out who you really are and the last couple of weeks have been difficult. But we bounced back last night with a good win and we’re going to need more of that if we’re going to be where we want to be at the end of the season.”
