This event triggered five consecutive nights of violent clashes and protests. Following the mournful death of the young boy, the unrest in Paris led to the arrest of a total of 78 people, as reported by BFMTV. On July 1, a private funeral ceremony was organized for Nahel Merzouk in Nanteuil, where friends and family bid their final farewells. The funeral procession, amidst a large crowd, saw people demanding justice for Nahel.

During this challenging time, journalists were urged to respect the family’s privacy and were requested to show sensitivity while covering the events. The grieving family called for an end to the violence and specifically asked protestors not to cause harm to schools or public transport. They expressed their pain and the devastating impact the incident had on Nahel’s mother.
Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin stated that a majority of those arrested during the protests were minors, with around 2,000 individuals aged 17 years or younger.
