Gandhinagar South: Can Alpesh Thakor win this time on BJP ticket?

In both the 2012 and 2017 Gujarat Assembly elections since the seat came into existence the BJP has been the winner here.
This time the ruling party has fielded prominent young OBC leader Alpesh Thakor from Gandhinagar South.
Thakor, formerly with the Congress and one of the faces of anti-BJP stir in the state during the 2017 polls, joined the BJP in 2019. He had won on the Congress ticket in 2017 but lost his Radhanpur seat in the subsequent bypoll in 2019.
The Congress has fielded its spokesperson Himanshu Patel, a local Patidar, from the seat, and another Patidar, Dolat Patel, is contesting on an AAP ticket.
The Thakors form the single largest group in this seat, followed by the Patidars.
BJP’s Shambhuji Thakor won the seat in 2012 and 2017. He defeated Congress’ Jugaji Nathaji Thakor in 2012 and Govingji Hiraji Solanki in 2017.

Gujarat is scheduled to vote in two phases on December 1 and 5.Gandhinagar South votes in the second phase. Votes will be counted on December 8.
